Dysfashional Opening Bodies in Motion

Last night, less than two weeks before the start of Berlin Fashion Week, designers, journalists and creatives came together for a fashionable warm-up: the opening of the exhibition Dysfashional at Haus der Kulturen der Welt. Berlin’s major Klaus Wowereit and French Ambassador Bernard de Montferrand opened the event with an official speech, followed by an original performance by ESMOD students entitled Bodies in Motion. Among the hustle and bustle of the evening, TribaSpace managed to grab participating artist Michael Sontag for a few minutes to find out more about his involvement in the exhibition and the concept behind his piece, The Dressing Table.

DYSFASHIONAL

25 June – 17 July, Berlin

This week, international exhibition DYSFASHIONAL hits Berlin, after a tour through Luxembourg, Lausanne and Paris. DYFASHIONAL, produced by creative PR agency MEA Brand Building, is  an exhibition curated by Luca Marchetti & Emanuele Quinz – one which considers fashion in a new light by exploring personal identity and experience. The prefix “dys“, indicating a disturbance, validates a feeling of dysfunction and discord in the system, which sets DYSFASHIONAL apart from simple fashion week presentations of garments and accessories.

DYSFASHIONAL is not only a barometer for experimentation between art and fashion — it is also a bridge between Paris and Berlin, two fashion and art capitals. This relationship is articulated through DYSFASHIONAL’s sister exhibition PARASITE, a transient space of trompe l’oeil murals produced by the French-German designer duo BLESS. The curator of PARASITE’s selection of Parisian and Berliner objects is Vidya Narine, the co-director of Rendez-Vous Paris.

DYSFASHIONAL and PARASITE will showcase the works of such designers as Raf Simons, Maison Martin Margiela, Hussein Chalayan, Pierre Hardy, Bernhard Willhelm, Kostas Murkudis and Gaspard Yurkievich.
