What To See at Berlin Fashion Week Part 2: Trade Shows and Showrooms
Starting on Wednesday the fashion industry will make Berlin its home. With two big trade shows: (Bread & Butter, Premium) and several other smaller presentation, it’s likely that buyers and press will agonize over what is most relevant to them. Part 2 of our Berlin Fashion Week series reports on the important trade shows, showrooms and special presentations.
With around 600 exhibitors, including big name brands like Nike, Reply and Adidas, as well as a vast multitude of smaller labels, Bread & Butter will be teeming with international visitors. As the largest “urban-wear” industry fair of its kind, the trade show “represents a marketing and communication platform for brands, labels and designers from the areas of Denim, Sportswear, Street Fashion, Function Wear and Casual Dressed Up.” Launching this season, B&B Kids will actively focus on children’s wear, while the L.O.C.K. STORE provides brands the possibility of presenting their current Autumn/Winter collections collaboratively in tailor-made surroundings.
PREMIUM provides a contemporary trade platform for choice collections, international newcomers and exclusive trend products. Selected for innovation and quality, PREMIUM Spring | Summer 2011 will be presenting approximately 900 international women’s and men’s collections, a wide assortment of accessories and shoes, as well as fragrances and cosmetics. The aim is to deliver relevant content and first-hand fashion information. SEEK, which promotes urban, avant-garde streetwear and the PREMIUM Symposium, are two events within the show that should not to be missed.
The Bright Tradeshow has established itself as a valuable stop-off for streetwear, skateboard and sneaker fashion and culture. The show has moved from Frankfurt to Berlin and will be presenting its brand portfolio in the German capital for the first time this season. Located at the former Stasi headquarters, the aim of the show is to provide “an interface between distribution and retail”.
The issues surrounding green fashion and sustainability in design are playing an increasingly large role within Berlin Fashion Week and its agenda. THEKEY.TO positions itself as “more than just an event, but a platform for sustainability – facilitating the exchange of inspiration, ideas, information, culture and spontaneous networking, with expert workshops and forums with international guest speakers.” Brands presenting include Article23 (France), Stewart +Brown (US) and Studio Jux (The Netherlands), as well as many German-based labels.
Offering a comprehensive overview of the Berlin design scene, Collect Showroom’s exhibitors range from newcomers to well established designers and include Starstyling, Boessert/Schorn and Tiedeken.
projektGALERIE provides young and international designers aiming “to create a mutually inspiring platform for art and fashion” with an outlet for their creative endeavors. This year both Nils Dunkel and BarbaraiGongini are on board.
BerliNordik: Forum for Sustainable Design, is an international platform that brings designers from Berlin together with colleagues from the Nordic countries. The focus of the showroom is sustainable design and covers fashion, product and interior design. This year Tarané Hoock and Magdalena Schaffrin are taking part.
Temporary Showroom is on our agenda too with Odeur, Vibe Johansson, Trikoton and Isabell de Hillerin they’ll be presenting an interesting selection of avant-garde design talent.
Reality Studio will take advantage of the most popular transportation mode of the city by offering “a moving fashion show on bicycles”. And last but not least, sunglasses designer Mykita teams up with the London-based German twins Felder & Felder by collaboratively showing their S/S11 Pre-Collections at the Weinmeister Hotel.
