Milan Fashion Week in Review

Mirco Giovannini

Frantic, feverish and frenzied: three F words that are synonymous with Fashion Week. As one of the most important Fashion Weeks in the world, Milan attracts swarms of Italian and internationally famed designers. And since it’s almost at the end of the season, we thought we’d take you back a couple of weeks to revisit your memories of Milan Fashion Week.

We were there amongst the beautiful chaos, and here are our thoughts on some of the designs we saw.

“Mirco’s collection is entirely centered around the use of knit. The garments are an in-depth study of volume and shape, resulting in avant-garde constructions made of pure merino wool, silk, cashmere and jersey. This is a far cry from the traditional idea of Italian knitwear design.”

“The focus was on waves, bouclé effects, and tailored bows. The colour palette was very diverse– moving from camel brown and powder blue, to cornflower yellow, red and indigo.”

Luisa Beccaria
Runway Show

“The location of the show was an interesting choice: la Biblioteca Forense, nel cuore di Brera (biblioteca della pinacoteca con libri antichi), a stunning library in the heart of Milan.”

la Biblioteca Forense

“Elegant and sophisticated, Beccaria used silks and chiffons to create long dresses and knitwear outfits.”

Runway Show

“The location and the light design created a beautifully solemn atmosphere. The collection was inspired by the concept of erosion (of grounds and rocks etc)…”

“Dresses, coats and pants were made of boiled wool that were layered over light cotton. Silk-linen jacquards that created the effect of plasterwork that had been eroded by time.”
