Copenhagen Fashion Week In Review
Following our visit to Copenhagen just over a week ago, we noticed some interesting movements across the industry. There has been a steady emergence of a new showroom structure across Copenhagen, and although the once dominant tradeshows are still going strong, the business in the city is evolving.
With over 1,100 exhibitors and approximately 2,600 international brands represented, Copenhagen is now Northern Europe’s biggest fashion event. Whilst the runway shows. organized by the Danish Fashion Institute, are always a highlight, it’s the trade shows that seem to be clocking up the numbers. Gallery had showed an increase of visitors with 12,400, whilst CPH Vision and Terminal 2 welcomed around 25,000 visitors and CIFF approximately 27,650.
Gallery has managed to live up to its reputation for being the leading platform for Scandinavian designer labels, and premium brands. Terminal 2 was equally successful and once more proved to be the leading fair for denim and street wear brands in Scandinavia. The trade show was marked by a positive atmosphere and managed to convince through impeccable organization of both the stands and the halls, furthermore the positioning and segmentation of the brands was well thought out.
Christian Gregersen, founder of Gallery claimed that “The mood has simply turned. It has bubbled with optimism all week”. International buyers and agents were present at all four trade shows, with brands both creating new contacts and catching up with existing ones.
Moreover, whilst the trade shows were generally positive, this is the first year that showrooms have played an increasingly important role in Copenhagen. Initiatives such as Moshroom, a showroom comprised of several high profile brands (including Wood Wood, Adidas O by O, Fred Perry, Julian Red and Blue Blood), as well as sales agencies and showrooms belonging to big name and designer brands for example Noir are appearing more and more frequently across the city. One can see Copenhagen slowly transforming into a city that’s relevant throughout the entire year, rather than just for a couple of weeks a year. With this new showroom structure in Copenhagen, the city is comes closer and comparable to cities like Paris and Milan.
We’re looking forward to the next season at Copenhagen, a destination that is fast becoming an absolute must in any fashion calendar.
